2017 Scholarships Available

For 2017, the Scholarship Committee of Sigma Psi Omega Chapter will identify and interview candidates as recipients of the scholarship awards listed below. They will also sponsor programs that will focus on education advancement and achievements for High School students throughout Long Island by hosting workshops on financial aid, and career and college fairs for potential college students and their parents.

College Bound Book Award Scholarship Application

The Sigma Psi Omega Chapter invites High School Seniors to apply for a one-time College Bound Book Award Scholarship.  Successful candidates must demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities. Selected students will be asked to attend an interview.  The recipients may use the academic based scholarship to attend any four-year college or university to cover the costs of books and/or other supplies for school. 

 


Students competing for the Sigma Psi Omega Book Award Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be a high school senior residing in Nassau or Suffolk County.
  • Applicant must enroll in a full-time undergraduate program no later than the fall of their graduation from H.S.

Sigma Psi Omega College Bound Selection Process:

  • Applicant attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 85 or better.
  • School and community involvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.




The Cheryl Goodridge Making Strides Scholarship Application

The Sigma Psi Omega Chapter invites High School Seniors to apply for a one-time $500.00 incentive scholarship.  Successful candidates must demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities. Selected students may be asked to attend an interview.  The recipients may use the academic based scholarship to attend any four-year college or university to cover the costs of books and/or other supplies for school. 

 


Students competing for the Sigma Psi Omega Making Strides Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be a high school senior residing in Nassau or Suffolk County.
  • Applicant must enroll in a full-time undergraduate program no later than the fall of their graduation from H.S.
  • Applicant’s parent or guardian has been affected by breast cancer. 

Sigma Psi Omega Making Strides Selection Process:

  • Applicant attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 85 or better.
  • School and community involvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.


Notification to Applicants for BOTH awards: Applicants will be notified in May of their status. Checks will be distributed upon receipt of the students' proof of enrollment in an accredited institution in the fall of their graduation year. 


Applications are due by final postmarked deadline of April 3, 2017.  Transcripts and letters of recommendation MUST be included. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
